DANGEROUS ONGLYZA SIDE EFFECTS
Recently, officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested the results of an Onglyza side effects study which was conducted by the drug’s manufacturing company, AstraZeneca. The 2013 SAVOR outcomes trial included an evaluation of more than 16,000 diabetes patients hospitalized for heart failure.
The study revealed the following conclusion:
- Diabetic patients taking Onglyza were hospitalized for heart failure nearly 30 percent more often than patients who were not taking the medication.
In 2015, a preliminary
review of data by the FDA revealed that Onglyza may be associated with an increased risk of death.
Some further distressing information from medical journals and the FDA also revealed the following:
- Incretin mimetic diabetes medications, such as Onglyza, encouraged the formation of abnormal pre-cancerous cells in the pancreas according to a study published in the medical journal, Diabetes, in March 2013.
- Onglyza may cause severe, disabling joint pain in some diabetic individuals. In the same drug safety announcement, the FDA revealed that about 10 cases reported fever, chills, rashes and swelling, which suggested an immunological reaction to DPP-4 inhibitors, which is the class of diabetes drugs Onglyza falls under.
