Woman Attacked By Her Own Dogs

Tammy Tucker was recently released from the hospital, but returns periodically for check-ups following a pitbull attack that caused a number of injuries. Although more than 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year, what makes this story different is that Tucker was attacked by her own pets. Tucker was attacked by her three pitbulls about five weeks ago and suffered injuries to her arms and legs. She said that it was a normal day in her home, but when she got up to walk she was suddenly attacked by the dogs. When police arrived at the scene, two of the dogs were shot and the local SPCA took the third dog away. Tucker went through five surgeries and received a skin graft on her arm and leg. However, she is not against owning the breed. Although pitbulls are notorious for being a dangerous breed, part of the problem is also bad owners and owning more than one animal at once. In a multi-dog household, its important to be attentive to each animals behavior and personalities. About a year and a half ago, the Tuckers had a similar incident with one of their dogs and sought help with handling their dogs. Unfortunately, the assistance was not enough since the attack still happened. Recognizing the signs of aggressive behavior could help prevent a dog attack.

  • Growling
  • Snapping
  • Wagging Tail
  • Raised fur
  • A change in body language (stiffened body, direct and hard eye contact)
...can all be a sign of potentially dangerous dog behavior. Owners need to especially be aware of any changes in their animals behavior around other people or in certain social situations. Have you been injured due to a dog or animal attack? Did you know that victims of animal attacks may be eligible for compensation? The dog bite attorneys at O'Connor, Acciani & Levy believe that dog owners need to be held responsible if their animals caused another person harm.
