The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation regarding a potential recall for Ford F-150 pickup trucks. To date, 33 complaints have been filed with NHTSA from drivers whose Ford F-150 pickup truck lost its brake function abruptly and without warning. Approximately 420,000 pickup trucks across the United States could be recalled if the agency deems it necessary. Due to the dangerous nature of the F-150s potentially defective braking system, safety advocates are pushing for NHSTA to issue a recall.
Ford F-150 Brake Failure Complaints
Over the past year, the NHTSA has received numerous complaints concerning brake failure in certain F-150 models. All but two of these complaints were made in the past year. Drivers reported instances of the vehicle's brake pedal falling to the floorboard and losing all braking ability. In some of these cases, drivers were told by mechanics that the source of the problem was a brake fluid leak from the brake booster's master cylinder. Thus far, failing brakes have led to four pickup truck accidents, although no injuries were reported in any of the crashes. Due to the complaints and related accidents, the NHTSA is investigating the issue to uncover the frequency of the problem and how expansive it may be. The information gathered throughout the investigation will allow the agency to determine whether a recall is necessary.Which Ford Vehicles Are Affected?
The NHTSA's investigation will cover approximately 420,000 Ford F-150 pickup trucks. The affected trucks and model years include:- 2013 F-150s with 3.5-liter, six-cylinder engines
