Once you are approved for Social Security Disability benefits, there is a 24-month waiting period for Medicare eligibility. During those 24 months, you may be able to obtain health insurance from a former employer. If you are under the age of 65, you will be entitled to Medicaid coverage. Your dependents, including minor children, may also be eligible for Medicaid.
