Morning Accidents Shut Down Highways For Several Hours

Two motor vehicle accidents on Thursday morning shut down I-75 and I-74 for a total several hours. On northbound I-75, the highway was shut down for two hours after a cement truck overturned at the Northwood Lateral. The crash was reported around 6 a.m. The driver, Richard Frietch, was reportedly stuck inside until medical crews arrived, he was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. According to reports, the cause of the accident was another driver who cut the cement truck truck off while trying to avoid an accident. Earlier, at about 2 a.m., a semi-truck overturned on southbound I-71 just past the Lytle Tunnel. The driver, Lazaro Pena, was cited for failure to control his vehicle. The interstate and Fort Washington Way were shut down for more than three hours as workers cleared the area. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, improper lane change was the cause of more than 19,600 car accidents in 2012. Failure to control was the cause of more than 37,000 motor vehicle accidents. Motorists on the interstate need to be especially careful of reckless and careless drivers on the road.
