GM Issues Fuel Pump Recall For Pickup Trucks
In a statement recently released by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), it has been announced that General Motors has recalled more than 9,400 pickup trucks due to a suspected issue with the fuel pumps in those vehicles.
The models in question include:
- Chevrolet Silverado HD
- GMC Sierra HD
.... and are those models specifically equipped with the dual fuel tank, 6.6 liter V8 diesel engine option.
While no known
crashes or
serious personal injuries have been recorded in Cincinnati due to the GM fuel pump recall according to GM spokesperson Mr Alan Adler, the summary released by the NHTSA has indicated:
"In the affected vehicles, the transfer pump which moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could malfunction and cause the fuel gauge to indicate an inaccurate reading.... If the fuel gauge indicates an inaccurate reading, it may result in the vehicle unexpectedly stalling, increasing the risk of a crash,".
A recall date is yet to be confirmed by the automaker, although GM dealers are being instructed to replace the fuel transfer pump, while owners that may have more questions can contact GMC at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020.
