Police Say Bus Driver Is Responsible For Fatal Pedestrian Accident
Two pedestrians were struck by a city bus in Cincinnati's Hyde Park neighborhood this past Wednesday.
One victim died as a result of the injuries he sustained from the bus accident.
Although an investigation into the incident is still ongoing, police have released a preliminary report stating the bus driver's involvement.
According to the report, the bus driver made an improper turn which resulted in the fatal crash.
Father Killed, Daughter Injured
At approximately 7:40 p.m., a father and his daughter were attempting to cross the street via a crosswalk at the intersection of Erie Avenue and Edwards Road.
The father and daughter had the right-of-way, as indicated by the crosswalk light which had recently changed to allow pedestrians to begin crossing the intersection.
As the father and daughter attempted to cross the road, a city Metro bus made an improper left turn and struck them.
The father was pronounced dead at the scene by local authorities. The daughter sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to an area hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition.
The driver of the bus was not injured. There were no passengers riding the bus when the crash occurred.
Preliminary Report Released
Cincinnati police released their preliminary report of the accident, stating the bus driver was responsible for the fatal
pedestrian accident.
While no criminal charges have been filed at this point, the case will be reviewed by the prosecutors office once police have finished their investigation. It is possible that charges could be filed at a later date.
The bus driver, who has driven for the Metro bus system for approximately 10 years, called for help immediately following the incident.
In a statement to police, a witness said it did not appear that the bus driver saw the pedestrians.
According to local law enforcement, the bus driver did not appear to be impaired at the time the accident occurred, though he will be tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure in such cases.
