Authorities from the Columbus Police Department have provided details in an accident involving a pickup truck, a school bus and multiple pedestrians that took place in Columbus on Friday morning. According to the report, the driver of the pickup truck, Terrance Trent, has released a statement that he was being assaulted by a passenger in his vehicle, that resulted in him losing control of his pickup truck, that collided with a Groveport Madison school bus. He was quoted as saying:
She was assaulting me with a can of pop while I was driving.... That's why the accident happened and all the other stuff. I just wanted to get to the police station.... I never intended to hurt anybody. I'm just really sorry.The report further detailed that the force of the accident pushed the school bus into a group of pedestrians at the intersection of High and Broad Streets, injuring 58-year-old Bill Lewis, a city engineer, and 21-year-old Stephanie Fibelkorn, an engineering intern. While Lewis was taken to Ohio Health Grant Medical Center with critical injuries, Fibelkorn was fatally injured and passed away at the scene. The bus driver was treated at the scene. Three special needs children were also involved in the collision, but they were uninjured. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
