Priest Injured In Funeral Procession Accident

On Wednesday, two people were injured in a crash that involved a hearse in a funeral procession at Colerain Avenue and Banning Road. According to Hamilton County dispatch, the driver of the hearse and a Catholic priest were injured around 1 p.m. while driving along Banning Road to Arlington Memorial Gardens. The hearse was t-boned while crossing Colerain Avenue. The vehicle that caused the crash was damaged while the hearse was flipped over. The driver of the hearse was taken to a local hospital, as was the Catholic priest involved in the incident. Their injuries were not life-threatening. It is unclear whether or not the driver who struck the hearse will face any charges. The hearse was carrying the body of Nancy White, who was set to be buried beside her late husband. The funeral procession included 40 cars, which held family members and friends. During the accident, the casket was flipped due to the vehicle being turned over. Whites family and friends were distraught; witnesses to the accident and employees from a nearby funeral home rushed to the scene to offer help and console family and friends. The car accident lawyers at O'Connor, Acciani & Levy would like to remind drivers that funeral processions have the right of way over all vehicles except fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles. It is a civil infraction to cur through a funeral procession. Motorists do not have to pull over, but should respect funeral processions and watch for any fluorescent flags or lights being used by vehicles in the procession.
