The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced that the number of traffic accident fatalities reported over Labor Day weekend decreased this year. A total of 11 fatal automotive accidents in Ohio were reported between Friday, Aug. 29 and Monday, Sept. 1. This is about one-third lower than the number of fatal accidents reported last year during this time. In fact, the number of fatal accidents reported during the holiday weekend is a four year low. However, troopers did note that the number of citations given out for driving under the influence, not wearing a seatbelt and other infractions was much higher this year. Specifically, many more drivers this year were cited for driving on a suspended license. Ohio's troopers were out in full force this holiday weekend, and lives were undoubtedly saved because of it, Colonel Paul A. Pride, Patrol Superintendent said in an online media release.
